Digital Marketing and Second Chances

“Failures are part of life. If you don’t fall you don’t learn. If you don’t learn, you’ll never change.”

I am not new to the world of Social Media and digital marketing at least I didn’t think I was until KUZA happened. I always thought that social media and digital marketing was just about having a large following on social media and using that following to get Customers for items that you advertised on your page. I remember this and laugh at myself as well.

So when I heard that there was an opening for digital marketers at a certain company I jumped at the opportunity. I checked to see if all my social media accounts were in check and thought that with that I was set.

This had to be the most ignorant I have ever been. I didn’t even think to do my research and find out if there was more to this field. Unfortunately or fortunately my interviewer saw right through me and told me that I needed to go get my facts straight and learn more about social media and digital marketing.

Research is key

I was devastated to say the least. I felt like a failure. I went back home and sulked for a while. A really long while.
When my uncle finally send me a link for the Kuza Biashara Training Program, it came as a blessing. I didn’t even know if I would get in but it felt like I had been given a second chance.

I went on my laptop and send my application then I waited. It seemed like I had been doing a lot of that lately.
After a few weeks I got a message saying that I had been among the Fifty girls shortlisted for the program and that I was supposed to go to the Kuza Biashara Offices on Friday at exactly twelve noon. I was over the moon and a little bit skeptical. After all the failures and all the disappointments it was hard for me to believe that finally there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

I brushed this feeling off and decided to prepare for the interview because I did not know what to expect.
Now the day of the interview I was unfortunately thirty minutes late and this threw me off a bit because I thought that that had affected my chances of getting in.

The facilitators introduced themselves to us, gave us a summary of what the Program was all about and what they expected from us then told us that it was our turn to speak. Now at this point all my past fears and feelings of uncertainty came crawling back and it didn’t help that all the ladies who spoke before and after me were amazing in their own respect.

On top of that the we were told that we had initially not been picked so you can imagine my surprise. I mean if the second lot was made up of such stunning girls then I could only imagine how the ladies from the first lot were. I will tell you this, they have definitely lived up to my expectations.

I was so impressed with what all the ladies had to say such that when I got home that evening all I could talk about was how I had met Forbes worthy women.

I actually expected to get a message saying that I had not gotten into the program but when I realized that I had, I was humbled and honored to say the least. Honored to be among a group of such bright minds with so many brilliant ideas.

This was truly the universe giving me a second chance.

As I write this, we are just about done with the second week of the training and the content that I have amassed over this period is priceless. From learning how to get income using your blog through affiliate marketing to digital marketing strategies to build your web presence. I have learnt the qualities of a good website and so much more.

I can truly say that I am slowly getting rid of my ignorance and getting enlightened as the days go by.
This program has opened my eyes to the huge world that lies within digital marketing and I am on a mission to explore all of it.
They say that learning is a journey and I just began mine. Walk with me and you might just learn as much as I have.
